The new Gateway Bridge will progressively open to traffic over the weekend 21 to 24 May 2010 with 4 southbound lanes available from early morning 24 May 2010. To accommodate the final works, changed traffic conditions are required along the New Gateway Motorway that will impact southbound travel from the Nudgee Interchange, Moreton Drive, Brisbane Airport, Kingsford Smith Drive and Links Avenue, Eagle Farm.
From 8pm 21 May the following traffic conditions will come into effect:
- Closures of the new Gateway Motorway to southbound traffic at Nudgee – all southbound traffic will be directed to use the Old Gateway Motorway to all destinations (including Brisbane Airport via Airport Drive).
- Closure of the Kingsford Smith Drive southbound on ramp – traffic intending to travel south over the Gateway Bridge will be directed to use the Links Avenue on ramp.
- Old Gateway Motorway southbound traffic will be switched onto the New Gateway Bridge.
- Airport traffic exiting southbound via Moreton Drive will still use the New Gateway Motorway and existing Gateway Bridge. However this traffic will not be able to use the Lytton Road off ramp and instead will need to detour via Wynnum Road.
Upon completion of the finishing works, the new Gateway Motorway will reopen (late Sunday/early Monday) to allow new Gateway Motorway southbound traffic to connect onto the New Gateway Bridge. Northbound traffic over the existing Gateway Bridge and along the new Gateway Motorway including the northbound off ramp at Kingsford Smith Drive and the Brisbane Airport Exit 108, Moreton Drive will remain open during this period.
