Control burns are planned along the Queensland Rail corridor on the southern side of the Flinders Highway west of Charters Towers from the Thalanga Mine turn-off for about 34 km to Cape River Bridge. These burns are expected to commence this Saturday 21 August 2010 and continue over the weekend. Smoke hazard signage will be in place however forecasted winds are expected to push the smoke to the south. Rural fire service will be present.
